Terminatus Accomplished - Throne List Victorious - General Oadius Best Overall
It's true.... from a prestigious field of 56, including: Darth Vader himself(Casey McNamara[grats new pappa!]), Ben Vaughn(Da Vinci..the renaissance reincarnated), Darth Maul(Ryan Thalen), Mad John(THE ork of California), Santa and lots more worthy generals, General Oadius(me) came out with a 1st place OVERALL. I've never managed to place 1st at the Contest of Champions and it's a very sweet victory, I must admit. It pleases my vanity to think that you all might want to know what list I played so here goes...
Throne List - General Oadius' Grey Knights @ 1750 points, CoC comp format
Inquisitor Karamov
Inquisitor Coteaz
5 x Paladins
1 MC Halberd
1 MC psycannon
1 psycannon
1 MC daemon Hammer
1 warding Stave
10 x Grey Knight
3 x Halberd
3 x Sword
2 x psycannon
1 x hammer
1 x justicar
rhino
10 x Grey Knight
3 x Halberd
3 x Sword
2 x psycannon
1 x hammer
1 x justicar
rhino
11 x Henchmen
2 x Assassin
2 x Crusader
6 x Henchmen
1 x Melta
Chimera
6 x Henchmen
1 x Assassin
1 x Crusader
3 x Henchmen
1 x Flamer
Razorback w/psybolt ammo
Dreadnought
2 x TL Autocannon
Psybolt ammo
Dreadnought
2 x TL Autocannon
Psybolt ammo
So that's that.... Basically Karamov held the middle with the Pallys(foot slogging). Karamov chooses to pass or fail and is T5 with 4 wounds. He is relentless with a MC Multi-Melta and a MC Power Sword at S5. He allows rerolls for all friendly units within 12" on all morale and pinning tests. That allows for the rhino's to flank him and stay near middle longer. His no scatter orbital bombardment is key though...he threatens far away targets, all while holding fast to the middle.
The Grey knights like to stand still inside the rhinos and fire hvy profile psycannons...also moving 12" and jumping out to torrent something with stormbolters and assault profile psycannons is very effective and usually not expected. These are the meat of the army and fulfill several different roles. They will usually take a charge as bait for those that would venture too close to the paladins.
Coteaz jumps into the Chimera with the mean henchmen unit to run into any fast attack and flankers. He also provides a powerful counter attack tool.
The Razorback is usually reserved and wants to run in around turn 4 or 5 to grab a defensive objective or is placed at the start of the turn to contest an enemy objective in the backfield. The flamer and assassin can do some damage.
The Dreads blow up tanks and make Obliterators take double toughness saves... they can also tar pit no grenade units who would dare to get too close to my objectives..they are usually quite close by.
There in lies the insight into my list that I will allow knowledge of....
Game 1 vs Nids
great game super close...my opponent papered the board like a champ. A little luck and persistent attack on his objective contested his and a persistent defense(and some luck) protected mine. 1 objective to 0 General Oadius scores 17
Game 2 vs Eldar
Wraithguard, Warlock and a Farseer held the middle for nearly 4 turns until paladins finished them off. Dreads took out all the Vypers, War Walkers and Wave Serpents. Nearly tabled him.. General Oadius scores 20
Game 3 vs Space Wolves
Classic Rhino list with a Rune priest and long fangs. Paladins held middle with great shooting and a turn 5 tank shock almost turned game into a tie. A lot of fun to play this general(Mr. Andrew B.). Game went to 6 and I got lucky and cleaned up the mess in the middle. General Andrew holds 1 objective and I held 2. General Oadius scores 17

Victory!! Team Wolfbrothers 3-0 for BEST OVERALL / TWIN LINKED CHAMPIONS!
That's right...ShotDownMind and General Oadius did it again. The gods of war have rewarded our persistence and dedication to the pursuit of victory with yet another fruit from the tree of battle. Hard fought victories make the spoils that much sweeter and this was no seal clubbing. In fact we were forced to face off against MadJohn and Santa our respected peers and forum mates for 1st place. The dice and fate would play as big a part as any superior list or strategem we may have used against the OrkyKnights but victory came none the less.
Our lists:
reclusiarch with death company in a rhino
2 razorback assault marine squads
las/auto cannon predator
Baal Predator with twin linked assault cannon and heavy bolter sponsons
2 haemonculous each with a webway portal
2 x 15 wyches with the fixins
8 wracks in a raider with Nightshield, flickerfield and grisly trophies
a razorwing fighter
GAME 1
Team Wolfbrothers vs Interstallar Blitzkrieg(Grey knights and Blood Angels)
enemy list(approximately):
Mephiston
Furioso Libby Dread with Drop Pod
Death Company Blood Talon Dreadnought with Drop Pod
Death company in a drop pod
something else.. can't remember [a fast vindicator]
Coteaz
8 Death Cult Assassins in a Chimera
Jokaero and Servitors in a Chimera
Grey Knight Interceptors(full squad)
A DreadKnight
Summary:
We went first and deployed the Wrack and Haemons in raider with a Predator, the rest were coming in from reserve and the Baal was outflanking. They deployed Mephiston and Coteaz. Interstellar Blitzkrieg didnt' want to seize so Shotdownmind deployed a Webway portal near middle left.
Drop pods with the 2 dreadnoughts came down around the raider with the DC dread coming in near our short table edge. We had DC rhino and razorback come in from reserves and I think one of the wyches. Ended up that the Wyches killed the DC dreadnought in CC with haywire grenades and I ended up assaulting the DC with DC and killing them while my tanks shot at Mephiston and the Libby dread. The other webway was put down farther forward on the other side and that pretty much sealed up their doom.
We had 2 objectives within walking distance of our short table edge and theirs were much farther in. They had expended a majority of their mobility with the drop pods that were, except Mephiston's presence, unsupported. Mephiston and Libby did kill my DC but left themselves open to the hail of fire that exacted revenge nicely.
By the end of the game the wracks had made it all the way across the board to kill Coteaz and the Wyches contested the enemy objective, captured the middle(with both squads) while the assault marines sat on our objectives for a tally of 5-0(center objective was worth 3). Wolfbrothers score 20/20 points for round 1.
Enemy lists(approximately):
2x10 man Grey Knight squads
Grey Knight Interceptors(full squad)
Psyfleman
Xenos Inquisitor
Vindicare Assassin
Vendetta
3x Vet Teams in Chimera(1 plasma unit and 2 melta)
Flak Battery Squadron(2 units)
Company Commander
GAME Summary
A notable player either tries to insult our intelligence or acted in a manner that was completely inappropriate..General Oadius rolled a 1 for red thirst and all hell broke loose. A compromise was reached and the battle restarted. After that they seized and started to blow our shit up.
Long story short..wyches did the heavy lifting and we won with Assault Marines and Wracks holding a table quarter and the wyches contesting the others.
Bay Area Open GT measuring tool for the win.Wolfbrothers scored like 17 of 20 points.
GAME 3 Wolfbrothers vs OrkyKnights
We were both relieved to get a game that we didn't care if we won or lost because we wanted to hang with the people that we were pitted against us.
Madjohn and Scott(santa) have been a force to be reckoned with at the Twin Linked tournies but we knew win or lose we'd have fun with good people. I won't even get into trying to explain this game to you but sufficed to say that we got first turn(which was huge) and ended up only very slightly ahead at the end. Wolfbrothers win 18 of 20 points.
TOURNAMENT SUMMARY
Super fun and an amazing way to cap out the 2011 tournaments. Mark at Great Escape Games has run these tournaments well enough to attract 20(!!!)TEAMS for a December tournament on Sunday. That says something in itself but the scenarios were fun and very challenging, the terrain was ample/consistent and the prizes were insane. This was a "cherry on top" tournament for Great Escape Games in my opinion. Wolfbrothers can't get enough....
Check out the blog for pics of the made to order dice bags that Great Escape and Mark are hooking up as trophies for the tournament.
UNTIL NEXT TIME....PLAY WELL, ROLL BETTER!!!

Great Escape Games - CoC finale
A MONSTROUS THANK YOU TO EVERYONE AT GREAT ESCAPE GAMES!
especially: Gary & Sirus
CONGRATULATIONS ON HOLDING THE FINEST TOURNAMENT SERIES ON THE ENTIRE WEST COAST.
Congratulations to: Casey McNamara for winning the 2011 championship & our own Douglas Bevard III on winning Player's choice and 5th in series overall.
For those of you haven't participated or even heard of the Contest of Champions series then I truly feel sorry for you. Fret not, as there is hope, in form of the 2012 Contest of Champions(which the Wolfbrothers have already RSVP'd to). If you love playing competitively against the finest generals in all the land or if you love the hobby of 40k(painting and modeling) then there is no finer example of a close knit community of players who represent the finest aspects of either. I strongly urge you to make the effort to join in with us.
A well run store is a pleasure to be within arms reach of...Great Escape is the benchmark for the industry, hands down.
A well run tournament store is the greatest pleasure an enthusiast could possibly hope for, Great Escape Games is simply untouchable.
If you think I'm kissing ass then please present a SINGLE example of any store in the region that can touch Great Escape Games for tournament frequency, number of participants, $ amount of prize support and most importantly player loyalty(# of returning players and or % of returning players). Oh you can't cuz there isn't?...yeah that's what I thought.
Ard Boyz Semi-Finals wasn't the same, having not been held at Great Escape Games(sorry obscure mall store). I'm probably bitter for having been smoked like a Winston.
Mark from Great Escape Games holds the twin linked tournaments and they are a blast. The "doubles" format rocks and the missions that Mark has been putting together makes the most out of them. Again, I strongly urge you to join in with us at GEG.
ENOUGH OF THIS BEING NICE, I AM GENERAL OADIUS AND YOU AREN'T, SORRY FOR YOU(unless you have a full head of hair, in which case, Ahhh Luuckkyy, tsk)
UNTIL NEXT TIME.....PLAY WELL, ROLL BETTER!!!
p.s. please support your local stores like: Heroes Games & Hobbies, Antioch Battle Bunker, Martinez' Frontline, Casey's store in Ukiah and all the others...even the mall store....

Twin Linked 40k Tournament at Great Escape Games, Sacramento
1000pt Doubles here we come! Packing up the "Recon" Force now. General Oadius said he was going to sleep but that would be a first. Ive only ever played one doubles game before. The Wolfbrothers have been caught up in 1850pt battling for the last two weeks - but Oadius and I have been up to our usual scheming. Great Escape Games is expecting 20+ teams to show up. We cant wait. The comp rules and scoring have been interesting to navigate, but we are both fielding perfect comp armies today. This has in turn given us some interesting "options" of various sorts and we think we have some lethal lists.
We will find out soon, and so will you! Bringing you the best Battle Reports on the internets, get ready for some awesome Shot Down Mind action everyone!

Contest of Champions: Personal Bonus Objective
PRIZES, Prizes, Prizes! At the end of the year FOUR (of six possible) Contest of Champions Event scores are added up for the final glory! Accomplishing the personal goal throughout each event is Significant!
Battle Points are earned each round each mission. A Loss is worth 5 points, Draw 10pts, and a Win 15 - additionally, and very importantly, each round both opponents secretly select a PERSONAL BONUS OBJECTIVE from a list of six. Achieving this objective is worth an additional 5 Battle Points for a total for 20 available points each mission.
These bonus objectives are an important part of the plan for victory each round. They are worth a lot of points. Competitors are not allowed to choose an objective that matches the mission. To really win the battle and the war you will need to plan ahead and capture these points each and every round.
Know your list. Know the mission. Know the rules!
The Personal Bonus Objectives are:
- Capture more table quarters than opponent.
- Destroy opponents most expensive HQ.
- Have more scoring units above half strength in enemy deploy than opponent.
- Eliminate over half of opponents army.
- Keep your most expensive unit above half strength.
- Destroy your opponents most expensive unit.

Contest of Champions: Mission Book Summary
Players participating in the Contest of Champions Tournament are asked to be familiar with these missions. We have been doing our best since the end of January to become experts. You are encouraged to visit the Great Escape Games forums and get the mission book directly from the source.
This tournament is year long with an event every other month. Its an Escalation League, starting at 1250 in January, notching up each competition by another 250pts to finish at 2500 in December. There is battle, sportsmanship, paint, and composition scoring each event.
Our club, the Wolfbrothers 40kNation Chapter, will host a CoC Primer Tournament on March 12th, mirroring the event format. With $100 in Prizes and FREE Entry it promises to be an exciting way to kick-off final preparations for the real fight on the 26th.
Although we are by no means finished, we sure have played the hell out of these scenarios as of late, and in the next few posts we will provide some insight on the task at hand in Sacramento:
This group of missions/scenarios are fairly straight forward. Each uses a standard deployment and a standard mission format. There are very few additional special rules and modifications - no limits on scouts and infiltrators and no surprise special outflankers (etc.) Each mission is really defined by its Additional Victory Conditions although the standard mission format is often modified.
We have identified 11 separate scenarios. Please read the actual mission book as it is subject to change and update. We have separated the missions into three categories: Annihilation, Dawn of War, and Standard:
Annihilation Missions:
#1 Capture the Enemy Camp: Pitched Battled, Killpoints - Each unit in your enemy deployment zone is worth an additional killpoint.
#3 Intelligent Design: Spearhead, Killpoints - Units are worth additional killpoints based on FoC and Points Value. (For Example, HQs are worth 1kp for each 50points.)
#9 Choices, Choices: Spearhead, Killpoints - 1 objective in center of table worth 2 killpoints.
Dawn of War
#2 Consume: Command & Control - Each table quarter is worth an additional objective.
#8 To Kill A Snake: Command & Control - HQ units are worth an additional objective.
#11 Ontime, Ontarget: Command & Control - Enemy VIP unit can score an additional objective.
"Standard"
#4 Head Hunters: Spearhead, Sieze Ground - Designated HQ is worth additional objectives.
#5 Storm Rising: Spearhead, Command & Control - Table Quarters are worth additional objectives.
#6 Shifting Sands: Pitched Battle, Three Objectives worth d3 Objective points each game turn.
#7 Unstable: Pitched Battle, Five Objectives - One in center, four others that might explode.
#10 Walk the Line: Pitched Battle, Three Objectives worth d3 each
Notes: #10 Walk the Line has replaced #6 Shifting Sands in the official mission book.
"Be familiar..." -- be prepared for these missions, in any order, but also any hybrid-combo of the mission elements. For example, we have seen #4 Head Hunters with Dawn of War deployment.
