Ard Boyz Semis Game TWO: Creed IG

Mission Two at Ardboyz Semi Finals had one objective in the center of the board. Only troops could score and the winner had to have more troops inside 6" at the end of the game. My strategy for this mission was to go first and stuff my opponent into his deployment zone, engage everything with the wyches and then score with the wracks and any surviving warriors or wyches.

I went first and deployed - my opponent deployed everything into reserve, with 3 scoring valkyries and a squadron of lemen russes outflanking (due to Creed.) After my first couple turns I had his board edge roughly lined with raiders and venoms. Could have done this better, but seemed pretty good at the time (I knew about scoring, outflanking valkyries.)

His whole army except 1 troop in a chimera roll in from reserve. Russ squadron in my back corner, Valkyries in the other (they could move on the board 6" and shoot all weapons at this tournament.)

We need a couple judges to help resolve the ramming IG tanks. The red and blue party wagon and a Demolisher make it on to the board, Creed and many others die horribly.

IG general goes on to pummel me with the darn outflanking tanks and flyers. I manage to kill most of one troop and all of another from inside the Valkyries at some point. Wyches deal with most of his tanks and blob squad that made it on to the board. Wracks and Vect and a unit of wyches hold the center but get pounded turns 4, 5, and 6. Lances never scratch his flyers or the two Chimeras that made it through the blockade - arr! He stacks the chimeras and flyers on the objective for a Major win!

Really a great comeback win for the IG General and one of my favorite games to play ever! He went on to win 2nd place that day! Great Job!

Ard Boy Semis Game ONE: Eldrad & Seer Council!

General Oadius and I made the journey to Cupertino, CA last week to participate in the second round of Ard Boyz. It was a long drive and we stayed in a nearby safe house making final WYSIWYG adjustments to our armies Friday night. Last Saturday was the actual tournament, after we got our morning dose of caffeine  we made our way into the competition at Legends Comics and Games deep inside the Vallco Mall.

Vect has made his way into the Dark Eldar list for Ard Boyz. Both rounds I played this list with some minor adjustments:

1 Ravager, 115 pts (Flickerfield)
1 Ravager, 115 pts (Flickerfield)
1 Ravager, 115 pts (Flickerfield)

Total Roster Cost: 2500

Game One was vs Eldrad in a Wave Serpent AND a separate Seer council. Eldrad with a Firedragon unit, three units of Dire Avengers in Wave Serpents, a fourth 5-man in a Falcon, and Two Fire Prisms:

The first mission was Pitched Battle, Victory Points - each general also chose a model in a troop unit to be "The Messenger" that would be worth 500vp if it made it into the opponents deployment zone at any point in the game. I selected the Acothyst in the Wrack unit and the Eldar general went with one of the five dire avengers in the Falcon. He won the roll to go first.

Eldar setup mostly in the middle with the messenger falcon next to Eldrads wave serpent. With Vect my deployment has been the same almost every game. After the formation is down Eldrad allows him to re-deploy some units and he moves to the above formation, basically castled into his left corner. I failed to seize the initiative (ouch!)

Eldar shooting went well, taking out the Wrack raider and both Trueborn Venoms. None of the Wyches or Ravagers were touched and moved out. Wracks jumped in the Trueborn Raider and slid towards the enemy deployment zone screened by the Warrior Venoms. Warriors and Blasterborn crept forward to throw potshots on lead Wave Serpents but pretty much all lances failed except one Ravager trained on the messenger Falcon, no cover and that sucker exploded clean!

Eldar turn two shooting went well also, shaking a Ravager and downing all three Wych units. One ran away at this point and the second-lead unit was charged by the Seer Council. Vect and company took some shots from wave serpents but were mostly unharmed. During my second turn lances took out the Wave serpent his messenger unit jumped into - another clean explosion - but nothing else. My messengers moved flat out into his deployment zone and gave his messengers dirty looks. Vect and his girls joined the combat with the Seer Council.

Eldar shoots down most of my fleet and kills all the trueborn. The combat in the middle grinds along but I am winning. He shoots at my wrack unit and kills some, they move a little and murder his messengers. My remaining Ravagers are shaken and immobilized, and something similar for his Fire Prisms. Vect and the girls gain the upper hand in the middle but are still locked by a couple warlocks.

Turn 4 the Eldar pile in tons of dire avengers and Eldrad and by the bottom of Turn 4 with time over, Vect and a few Wyches murder tons, and sweep everything. Eldrad failed every save possible. Dark Eldar Victory!

Space Marine, the video game. Smokin cigarettes and watching captain kangaroo.

Fellow gamers,

A Forgeworld, Warlord Titans, jumpacks, plasma pistols, and lots of other cool aspects of the tabletop game we know and love. Space Marine, a video game based on the 40k universe. Love it or hate it? I myself enjoy the new game it has great aspects of 40k universe( almost like the assault on black reach starter set with orcs and ultramarines! It plays ALOT like GoW especially in multiplayer which is also quite entertaining. It's a far cry from the weak 40k offering we got on the ps2, so I'm gonna keep it short and sweet. If you like 40k then pick up a copy today and enjoy! General Bass Out!

Sunday, September 4, 2011

Hey there my fellow gamers of war. I am going to be quite brazen and post my new list for the upcoming COC at great escape games.

"Oh but Makooma, if you do that someone may make an army just to beat you."

"Oh but Makooma, one of your advantages as a general is the fact that no one knows what you will do next."

Yes well I know all of these things but i am so confident in my army that I will post the list anyway. It is my belief that there is no army that can "counter" what I am taking. Furthermore I will only post the list and not my tactics. I will leave you guessing at my use of units. Some of the units I have chosen may have obvious uses, others do not. Now prepare yourself for the; "Eye of the storm"

HQ:
Hivetyrant: Scything talons, Stranglethorn cannon, old adversary, hive commander, hardened shell.
Tyranid Prime: Lashwhip & Bonesword, Scything talons, Adrenal glands.

Elite:
10 Ymgarl genestealers
2 Zoanthropes in a mysetic spore with cluster spines.

Troops:
30 termagants
28 hormagaunts: adrenal glands, toxin sacks.
11 genestealers: scything talons, adrenal glands, toxin sacks, broodlord.

3 warriors: lashwhip & bonesword, 2 deathspitters, 1 barbed strangler, adrenal glands, toxin sacks.

Fast attack:

What’s that you say? That does not sound so bad? Well well well. Just come to the next CoC at Great Escape games in Sacramento and find out if you can handle, "The eye of the storm"!

State of the Chapter / General Oadius' evaluation and appraisal of the current stable of Wolfbrother generals.

As the Reclusiarch of the Wolfbrothers Chapter, I am bound to deliver my evaluation and appraisal of each and all generals. I am also entitled to voice my opinion of the current state of the Wolfbrothers Chapter.

I have decided to rate each general numerically on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest. Categories of evaluation include: List Building, Deployment, Shooting, Close Combat, Shenanigans, Intimidation and Rolling. The total of these numbers should signify each general's rank amongst the chapter.

If you are a Wolfbrother chapter general and I hurt your feelings with this evaluation, then too fucking bad, play me and get better.

1st Place
ShotDownMind - Wolfbrothers Chapter Master
List Bldg/Deployment/Shoot/Close Combat/Shenanigans/Intimidation/Rolling/ TOTAL
9 9 9 8 8 7 9 - 59

In a word...lethal. SDM plays competitively and has several 1st place and best overall finishes. Recently he placed 1st in Ard Boyz Qualifiers, 1st in the Twin Linked Tournament(Great Escape Games) and is in the top 5 at the prestigious Contest of Champions(Great Escape Games) for the 2011 season.

2nd Place
General Oadius - Wolfbrother Reclusiarch
List Bldg/Deployment/Shoot/Close Combat/Shenanigans/Intimidation/Rolling/ TOTAL
9 8 8 9 8 9 7 - 58

In a word....Furious. General Oadius plays "in your face" with CC oriented lists that reroll everything. Recently placing 5th amongst 75 competitors at the Bay Area Open, 2nd at Ard Boyz Qualifiers, 1st in the Twin Linked tournament(Great Escape Games) gives General Oadius a wealth of superfluous confidence that can astound even the highest strung person.

3rd Place
Andrew - Wolfbrothers Master of Librarians
List Bldg/Deployment/Shoot/Close Combat/Shenanigans/Intimidation/Rolling/ TOTAL
9 9 9 7 7 5 7 - 53

In a word....Deliberate. General Andrew can easily be wrote off in appearance and demeanor, but underestimating this general can end your day badly. Andrew writes rock solid lists that punish the enemy for any mistake they may make(Sun Tzu would be proud). Andrew has competed at the Ard Boyz Finals and is a fierce tournament player.

4th Place
General Bass - Wolfbrothers Chapter Champion
List Bldg/Deployment/Shoot/Close Combat/Shenanigans/Intimidation/Rolling/ TOTAL
7 7 7 8 7 9 7 - 52

In a word....Brutal. General Bass will come straight at you with everything he's got, no holding back. Physically intimidating and stubborn as hell, beating Bass is as rare as it is difficult. With several best general awards and a 6th place finish amongst 75 competitors at the Bay Area Open GT, General Bass is amongst the hottest of our competitive generals.

5th Place
General Jake R - Wolfbrothers Master of the Forge
List Bldg/Deployment/Shoot/Close Combat/Shenanigans/Intimidation/Rolling/ TOTAL
8 7 7 7 9 5 8 - 51

In a word....Brilliant. General Jake will out think you, end of story. Jake plays more armies than anyone and plays them all well. General Jake R. has a wealth of experience in tournaments and recently placed 3rd in the Ard Boyz qualifiers.

6th Place
Ian - Wolfbrothers Master of Scouts
List Bldg/Deployment/Shoot/Close Combat/Shenanigans/Intimidation/Rolling/ TOTAL
7 7 7 7 6 6 8 - 48

In a word....Dynamic. General Ian plays a wide variety of armies and a wide variety of fighting styles, he knows the deal and games the mission. Don't take anything for granted with Ian or he will make you pay for it. General Ian is at every tournament he can make it to and was recently the army to beat at the latest Wolfbrother's tournament.

Tied for 6th Place
General Charles "Makooma" - Wolfbrother's Warden
List Bldg/Deployment/Shoot/Close Combat/Shenanigans/Intimidation/Rolling/ TOTAL
8 8 7 6 7 6 6 - 48

In a word....Focused. Makooma has a plan from turn 1 and knows what to do to make it happen. Comp is not his favorite subject, but he builds lists with lots of hurt and surprises and intends them to win. Makooma is at the top of Tau players on the West Coast and fields a mean Tyranid army too.

7th Place
General Alex - Wolfbrother's Captain of the Honour Guard
List Bldg/Deployment/Shoot/Close Combat/Shenanigans/Intimidation/Rolling/ TOTAL
7 8 8 6 6 5 7 - 47

In a word....Solid. Alex is not going to let you win without earning it but he'll be damned if you don't have a great time winning or losing. Possibly the funnest of all our general to play against. Alex does like to compete and he does like to win, he just doesn't get too wrapped up in it all.

Tied for 7th Place
General Eric - Wolfbrother's Chaplain
List Bldg/Deployment/Shoot/Close Combat/Shenanigans/Intimidation/Rolling/ TOTAL
6 7 7 8 5 7 7 - 47

In a word....Ready. Eric is a very balanced player and could field any army with tactical efficiency. General Eric has competed in all 3, 2011 Wolfbrother Tournaments, with a strong showing each time. Now he's fielding the deadly Blood Angels and will no doubt make the Emperor's enemies pay dearly and often.

8th Place
General Ben - Wolfbrother's Chapter Banner Bearer
List Bldg/Deployment/Shoot/Close Combat/Shenanigans/Intimidation/Rolling/ TOTAL
7 8 6 6 6 8 6 - 46

In a word...Learning. Learning quickly I might add, SdM and I are observing Ben not make the same mistake twice in games against us and that is all we can ask for. Ben isn't a competitive player at the moment but his potential is unlimited.

9th Place
General Matt - Wolfbrother's 1st company terminator
List Bldg/Deployment/Shoot/Close Combat/Shenanigans/Intimidation/Rolling/ TOTAL
6 5 6 7 6 5 5 - 40

In a word....Competitive. Ultra competitive and I love him for it...he just needs to play more. Matt does like to compete at events he just doesn't like to finish them.

Tied for 9th Place
General Richard "Daywalker" - Wolfbrother's 1st company terminator
List Bldg/Deployment/Shoot/Close Combat/Shenanigans/Intimidation/Rolling/ TOTAL
6 5 6 6 5 6 6 - 40

In a word....Learning. Under the tutelage of Makooma, Daywalker will soon be a force to reckon with...especially wielding the ultra-effective space wolves. Daywalker has competed in several Twin Linked Tournaments(Great Escape Games).

10th Place
General Forrest - Wolfbrother's 2nd company sargeant
List Bldg/Deployment/Shoot/Close Combat/Shenanigans/Intimidation/Rolling/ TOTAL
5 6 6 5 5 5 7 - 39

In a word....Brave. General Forrest is not scared to take a beating in order to learn something new. Also, Forrest's lists are balanced and his deployments are valid as well. Forrest recently competed at the Wolfbrother's 3rd 2011 tournament with his Dark Eldar army.

So that is my appraisal and evaluation of each of the Wolfbrother's generals. We are blessed with a strong crop of experienced generals that are active in the tournament scene as well as being blessed with a crop of new generals that have great potential. Under the leadership of ShotDownMind we should continue to be a force to be reckoned with all over the West coast and beyond.

The state of the Chapter is excellent. A great many of our generals are actively competing and a strong dynamic exists between the chapter's leadership and it's livery of generals. Our reputation proceeds us to all over California and support from two of the greatest hobby shops in the nation(Great Escape Games and Heroes Games and Hobbies) continues to provide growth. We just held a very successful tournament at Heroes and that marked the 3rd tournament we've organized for 2011 alone.

All hail the Wolfbrothers, death to our enemies.
