Saturday July 20th we made our way down the Mountain into The Big Tomato pumped for MURDER on the Tabletop as we expected nothing but brutal, cutthroat competition at Great Escape Games for the latest episode of their yearly Contest Of Champions 40k Tournament.
Oh boy, did we find what we were looking for! Murderous, Murderous MURDER!
An extra special event for The Song of Pain and Glory as we busted out the 'ole Webway, a New Painseer and Jetbike blob with Shrouding Warlock for the first real outing in Months!
First- some of the eyecandy, a real treat anytime we can get into Sactowne:
hodor?
With the Dogstar back at the helm, the event was All Fun and Games! The First Round started with a hearty shout, "HODOR!!!"
PAIN was thick in the Air, and the sDm Kabal got right to work, facing off Round 1 Hammer and Anvil vs Blood Angel/Necrons with Dante, Sanguiny Guard, Two Vindicators, one Land Raider, and a Storm Raven backed up by a Necron Lord and Two Immortal Teams with Nightscythes.
After a couple turns of hide and seek the bulk of the Kabal rushed the very tiny amount of opposing forces and completely overwhelmed all resistance. Notably one of the Vindicators killed itself with a long scatter on a short shot - starting the cascade of Dark Eldar craziness across the board.
Second Round saw the Kabal matched up vs none other than Sac City Punisher Jason Jiru. He knows the ins and out of the Dark Eldar shenanigans and Beast unit madness and was ready for a complete brawl.
He started strong making saves on his thunderfire cannon then dropping and popping Twenty Marines and his warlord to capture First Blood from the Shrouded Jetbike Unit. Moving his vindicators into position to pound the Beast unit and dropping my Venoms with advancing dreadnoughts and tactical Lascannons.
Enter the Voidravens, who wiff entirely with clear shots on Vindicator side armor. The Painseer also fails with Invisibility, the Beasts were literally caught with thier pants down and set to take a massive pounding. Jason was positioned to take the game.
In the end the Dark Eldar were able to claw out a tough win with epic fights in on both flanks and the center of the board. Jasons marines killed wave after wave of Dark Eldar but in the final moments of the game just didnt have the numbers. With very little of either army remaining on the board, the sDm Kabal was able to steal a minor victory.
Round Three the sDm Kabal squared off versus Draigo and ten Paladins backed by Nightscythes, Annihilation barges, and Wraiths. Hardcore and brutal - the Contest Of Champions raged!
After carefully measuring and deploying, General ShotDownMind forgot to drop the WebWay Portal! WTF?
A serious battle waged in the center of the board saw most of both armies decimated. Draigo ran point on the Paladin unit and died to waves of poison and bladestorm. Fast maneuvering for a couple turns kept the bulk of the Dark Eldar army out of range of most of the opponents weapons and allowed the Kabal to pound the Paladins and stick the Beast unit. But the Paladins without their leader wouldn't falter in face of overwhelming numbers and walked through turn after turn of everything the Beast Unit could throw at them - eventually slaugthering the entire mob and scoring in the center to win the game. Although the painseer would make it to the rear of the enemy lines and cause much damage and even score linebreaker, the game was a major Victory for the Necrons and Grey Knights.
The Contest of Champions is always a blast! We come looking for a fight and always find more than a few!
Look at these two jokers going at it all day! Its almost wrong to match Cody Jiru with such a short opponent!
As usual a ton of prizes for almost every category imaginable were to be had. The loot matches the MURDER, as it should be!
Thanks everyone! We will be back for more!
MURDER! Great to see you guys come down! And yes, I don't know what Sirus the Virus was thinking matching me up against a dwarf!
ReplyDeleteYee!
It seems like there were a few less people in attendance compared to last year's COC events.
